Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Prince George, who was kept out of the cold with a nanny, didn't make it to the royal family's Christmas service at St. Mary Magdalene Church on the queen's estate in Norfolk, so Prince William and Kate Middleton were left to describe his first holiday season to the 3,000 people who greeted them.

Clad in a tartan Alexander McQueen coat, the duchess of Cambridge told one 75-year-old fan that Prince George had a "lovely" Christmas.

"Kate told me he was having a lovely day but was more interested in the wrapping paper than the presents," Cecely Howard said.

Prince William addressed the crowd.

"We've had a good morning with George and I can't wait until next year when he's bigger," he said.

Queen Elizabeth referenced her great-grandson in her annual Christmas address.

"Here at home my own family is a little larger this Christmas," she said. "As so many of you will know, the arrival of a baby gives everyone the chance to contemplate the future with renewed happiness and hope. For the new parents, life will never be quite the same again."
