Three years ago today Prince William and Kate Middleton married in front of millions around the world.

Around 2,000 friends, family and dignitaries came to Westminster Abbey for a ceremony which was heralded as a huge boost to national morale.

Since then there has been a whirlwind of good news for the royal couple.

Kate's first royal engagement after the wedding was to meet President Obama and his wife Michelle.

William continued his job as an RAF helicopter rescue pilot and in November 2011 helped save two sailors from a sinking ship in the Irish Sea.

In 2012, William and Kate led the country in cheering on Britain's astounding summer of sporting success - not least at the London Olympics.

The Duke and Duchess were ambassadors for the Games alongside Prince Harry and watched on as the UK won its biggest-ever haul of medals.

And the year ended on a high as the couple announced Kate was pregnant with their first child.

The news emerged quicker than the palace wanted because Kate had to be admitted to hospital as she was suffering from extreme morning sickness.

But thankfully her difficulties passed and a healthy baby boy - Prince George - was born on 24 July 2013.

William decided to retire from piloting duties in September 2013 to help out with parenting duties and take on a greater public role with the royal family.

And last week the happy family completed a tour of Australia and New Zealand which saw Prince George emerge as the star of the future.

Happy Anniversary William and Kate!
