Kate and William's country mansion roof refurbished

The new roof tiles at sprawling Anmer Hall have caused a stir with neighbours who claim the mansion now resembles a "Barratt" home

Roof rage: The new red tiles have angered neighbours

The new roof at Kate and William's magnificent country mansion is finally complete.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have come under fire for their choice of new tiles at Amner Hall with neighbours claiming the country pile now looks more like a "cheap Barratt home".

The controversial red tiles are part of extensive renovation works at the listed Georgian property on the Queen's 20,000-acre Sandringham Estate.

The work has involved roofers replacing old, weathered tiles on the Norfolk mansion with red ones that are said to not be in keeping with the 1800s building.

One disgruntled resident said: "The building dates back to the early 1800s but it looks more like a cheap Barratt home now.

"It's not an eyesore but it does look completely different."

Roof row: Wills and Kate have been criticised for their choice of new red roof tiles

Kate and Wills are said to be considering dividing their time between Anmer Hall, their main country base, and Kensington Palace.

And neighbours in Norfolk are hoping for more comings and goings from the royals and Prince George, after the Queen gave the couple the home.

She is said to have footed the bill for the red roof and a new 16ft x 16ft garden room built on to the kitchen.

The new addition has been designed by Charles Morris, who built an extension for Prince Charles at Highgrove.

A driveway is also being rerouted and trees planted to shield the public from the residence.

The hall, which also has a swimming pool and tennis courts, is one of 150 owned by the Queen at Sandringham.
