Kate Middleton, Cara Delevingne and Keira Knightley create demand for ...

The Kate effect is well-known, with everything the Duchess of Cambridge puts on in the morning or even looks at through a shop window selling out in a matter of minutes.

But now the selling power of Kate Middleton joined forces with the ultra-cool status of "It" girl Cara Delevingne to propel the popularity of the power brow.

Cara, who caused a stir at the sexy Victoria's Secret show last year, was back on the catwalk for Paris Fashion Week with Chanel - while Kate's strong face-framers show that skinny, arched brows are definitely out of fashion.

Transform Cosmetic Surgery reports that it has seen enquiries about eyebrow transplants increase significantly since 2010, largely due to famous beauties including Kate, Cara and actress Keira Knightley.

The group reports:

Enquiries about eyebrow transplants have increased by 45% since 2010 The average age of those enquiring is 30 70% of those enquiring say they have previously over-plucked

An eyebrow transplant costs from £1,500, and more women than ever are considering paying out for the treatment. Transform believes this is in part due to the 90s trend for thin, tweezed eyebrows - with many finding that has left them with sparse brows - and what it is calling "the Delevingne effect".

Cara's Caterpillars are so coveted they even have their own social media, with one of the many Twitter fan-pages devoted to them currently commanding nearly 5,000 followers.

Eyebrow fashions have changed from super skinny to the bold "Scouse Brow" made popular by the E4 reality series, Desperate Scousewives.

Avid plucking and waxing to keep up with these trends can damage the root, leading to eyebrows growing more sparse over time and resulting in the need for corrective methods to reverse these effects.

Hair transplant surgeon at Transform, Dr Mabroor Bhatty, said: "The rise in enquires for this treatment comes mainly from women who have previously over-plucked, which can permanently damage the follicle leaving them with thinning or virtually no eyebrows.

"As fashions have changed, women are looking to reverse these effects with the treatment.

"Eyebrow transplant procedures are performed in the same way as a hair transplant, by taking a strip of hair from the donor site; usually at the back of the head at the lower hair margin, where the hair is finer.

"This strip is divided into single hair follicles before each follicle is individually transplanted to incisions made in the eyebrows.

"As is the case with a standard hair transplant, it is normal to see hairs falling out for the first six weeks. However, new hair will grow on average between two to three months after the procedure, creating the desired thickening effect."
