Duke and Duchess of Cambridge set up companies to protect their 'brand'

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have reportedly set up their own companies to protect their "brand", it has emerged.

In a move similar to that of the Beckhams, Prince William and Kate, along with Prince Harry, have each set up a firm in case they ever need them "to protect intellectual copyright".

The firms were set up in 2012 on the advice of lawyers, but have been dormant ever since and are not intended to be used for trading.

The companies will enable William and Kate to sell officially-endorsed products and take action against anyone selling items that could harm their image.

Kate's firm is called CE Strathearn - from her names Catherine and Elizabeth and the Countess of Strathearn title awarded by the Queen.

William's is APL Anglesey - after his middle names Arthur Philip Louis and the Welsh island where he and Kate lived after they married.

Prince Harry has also set up a company Tsessebe - the name of an African antelope.

Kensington Palace are said to have stressed last night the firms would not be "regular trading arms" and were likely to remain dormant for the foreseeable future.

But aides are said to have admitted they could not rule out them being used for commercial purposes at some stage, with the profits going to charity.

They also confirmed the companies could be used for 'protection' when it came to the issue of trademarks or the couple's brand.
